Breast Augmentation Overview – Atlanta, Georgia

The decision to undergo breast augmentation surgery is a very personal one, and women have varying reasons for choosing the procedure. Many women feel that their breasts are out of proportion with the rest of their figures and are dissatisfied with the ways that their clothing and bras fit. Some women also have breasts of uneven sizes and wish to create more symmetrical appearances through plastic surgery. Whatever your reasons for considering breast augmentation, Atlanta, Georgia cosmetic surgeon Dr. John LeRoy can help you achieve a more voluptuous bust line and increase your confidence.

Breast Augmentation Consultation

Dr. John LeRoy will schedule an in-depth consultation, during which time you and he will make several important decisions regarding your breast augmentation surgery. In the planning phase of your breast augmentation procedure at our Atlanta, Georgia office, you will decide what kind of implant you want, what shape it will be, and where Dr. LeRoy will place the incision. You will be able to choose between round implants and anatomical implants, which tend to have a teardrop shape. You will also decide on the size, width, and volume of your implants, which will determine your final cup size. The size of your existing breasts and your aesthetic preferences will help you and Dr. LeRoy determine which size and shape is right for you.

Once you have decided on a size and shape, you will decide whether you would like the implant to be placed beneath the chest muscle (known as submuscular breast augmentation) or above it (subglandular augmentation). See our breast augmentation before-and-after photos for examples of the great results our patients have achieved with both types of implant placement.

Finally, you will decide on an incision site. Incisions can be made along the crease beneath the breast, in the armpit, around the nipple, or in the navel. Again, Dr. LeRoy will discuss each type of incision to help you make an educated decision.

Breast Augmentation Risks and Benefits

Plastic surgery can be a life-changing experience. Breast augmentation at our Atlanta, Georgia office affords many benefits, including increased self-confidence, a more proportional physique, and a broader selection when shopping for clothes, bras, and bathing suits.

However, like any surgery, breast augmentation does carry some risks. One complication associated with breast augmentation is the development of capsular contracture. Capsular contracture occurs when the natural scar tissue that forms around the breast implant begins to contract and harden, causing pain, putting pressure on the implant, and distorting the shape of the breast.

During your consultation, Dr. John LeRoy will discuss with you all of the possible risks and complications associated with breast augmentation surgery. Although capsular contracture and other complications can be painful and expensive to correct, they can generally be avoided if the breast augmentation is performed by an experienced surgeon. Other Breast Surgery Options

For women who seek to enhance their breasts’ shape and firmness without implants, a breast lift is an excellent option. For women whose breasts are disproportionately large or for men who suffer from gynecomastia, Dr. John LeRoy also performs breast reduction surgery. Breast augmentation, breast lift surgery, and breast reduction surgery all carry different risks and benefits. Dr. LeRoy will work with you personally to ensure that your surgery is safe and effective.
