Atlanta plastic surgeon Dr. John LeRoy explains the differences between popular “mini” plastic surgeries and new cosmetic skin treatments, and why those differences can often depend on the doctor.
The overall goal with increasingly popular “mini” cosmetic procedures such as Botox® and Dysport® injections, “mini” facelift surgery, and laser skin resurfacing is to rejuvenate a patient’s appearance without compromising their natural aesthetic or incurring the cost and recovery time of traditional facial plastic surgeries. Despite creative efforts from cosmetic companies attempting to brand plastic surgeons, Dr. John LeRoy says the true difference among “mini” facial rejuvenation procedures performed at his Atlanta plastic surgery practice lies in experience and results.
Since 1997, board-certified Atlanta plastic surgeon Dr. LeRoy has used surgical experience and patient feedback to develop a line of minimally-invasive plastic surgery procedures that are completed in-office using gentle numbing. These procedures include the following: Band Aid Facelift, Band Aid Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), Band Aid Brow Lift, and Band Aid Liposuction to address small areas of patient concern without overly altering their appearance. The important thing to note here, according to Dr. LeRoy, is that he has developed these procedures independent of corporate influence from the major cosmetic companies.
Having performed over 3,000 facelifts in Atlanta, including the “mini” facelift plastic surgeries during his career, Dr. LeRoy warns patients about the true differences among particular “brands” of facelift and facial rejuvenation procedures. “Many of the mini facelift brands are just that: a name advertised by any doctor who is willing to pay for the rights to the brand. If adopted by a board-certified plastic surgeon with ample experience, this doesn’t pose any problem. The fact that any licensed physician can pay for these rights and offer the procedure, regardless of their experience, is where the actual value gets a little questionable.”
Dr. John LeRoy also explains that the quick-fix offered by most wrinkle injection treatments and superficial laser treatments only provides temporary results (typically lasting anywhere from 4 months to a year). While the face continues to age after any cosmetic facial procedures, he is able to address the root issues with minimally-invasive procedures—such as tightening lax muscles underneath the skin or physically removing excess tissues with Band Aid Liposuction in Atlanta—to ensure more significant, long-lasting cosmetic results.
Annual statistics gathered by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) indicate that cosmetic surgery patients are approaching more “mini” procedures at a younger age than the cosmetic surgery patients of years past. In light of these statistics from ASAPS, Dr. LeRoy emphasizes the importance of choosing a qualified plastic surgeon for any cosmetic procedure, regardless of whether it has been deemed surgical or minimally-invasive. “The history of legal trouble some partial “mini” facelift brands have experienced emphasizes the importance of consumers exercising caution when choosing a surgeon to ensure they are receiving the best care available and not lusting after the procedure’s label.”
