All of us at the plastic surgery office of Dr. John LeRoy are grateful to be able to fulfill our passion and help our patients be their most beautiful and confident selves, and as a way to spread our good fortune to help those in need, we’ve just wrapped up our Fall 2015 Charity Contest! The votes have been tallied, and we’d like to offer our congratulations to this season’s winner, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital!
As a facility dedicated entirely to improving the treatments and prevention measures for life-threatening pediatric diseases, this hospital provides cutting-edge treatments for children with illnesses like cancer and sickle cell disease. For many of these patients, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital provides them with medical options that aren’t available elsewhere, and to relieve the financial burden their families are facing, the hospital operates almost entirely from donations and grants, never sending patients a bill for treatment, travel, housing, or food.
While this unique hospital is saving the lives of their patients, they’re also making a powerful difference for children with life-threatening diseases throughout the country. As one of the top pediatric research hospitals, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital was the first to develop a cure for sickle cell disease using a bone marrow transplant. The facility’s research also played a vital role in the dramatic improvement in childhood cancer survival rates over the past several decades. In fact, the survival rate for all pediatric cancers has risen from 20% in 1962 (when the hospital opened) to 80% today, and the survival rate for ALL (a form of leukemia and the most common type of childhood cancer) has increased from just 4% in 1962 to 94% today.
On behalf of our entire staff at the office of John L. LeRoy, MD, we would like to extend a warm “thank you” to the Atlanta community. It’s your support which gives us the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of both our patients and those in need.
