When you invest your time, energy, and resources into a facelift, it’s only natural to want an idea of how long you’ll be able to enjoy your results. There’s no clear-cut, exact number that will be the same for every patient. It depends on many factors including the details of your procedure, your skin quality, genetics, health habits, and more. But there are a few guidelines that can give you some insight.
How Long Facelifts Last
When you get a facelift (or a Band Aid Mini Facelift, in the case of most of my patients), it’s similar to moving you back in your appearance’s timeline. Depending on the patient, most facelifts take 8-10 years off your age, so in other words, you can expect to look the way you did 8-10 years ago. Plastic surgery doesn’t stop the aging process though, so if your aging continues at the same pace, it will take 8-10 years for you to look the way you did right before your surgery again.
Keep in mind that every procedure is customized for the patient. Some of my Band Aid Mini Facelift patients are starting their facial rejuvenation at an earlier age, so they may only need or want about five years of improvement. In this case, their facelift would “last” five years.
How to Make Your Facelift Last Longer
For a patient asking how long it will be until they need a “touch-up,” it depends on what type of touch-up they’re thinking about. The estimates above (8-10 years) are generally the amount of time before you may consider another cosmetic surgery. But many of my patients choose to take action earlier and use nonsurgical treatments to maintain their surgical results longer.
Some of the most popular ways to address new aging after surgery include nonsurgical Band Aid Skin Tightening and Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing. Band Aid Skin Tightening uses targeted radio frequency energy (RF) to warm the deeper layers of the skin. This causes your body to produce more skin-firming collagen, offering you tighter and more lifted skin. Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing, on the other hand, uses a specialized laser that sends tiny dots of energy into your skin. This will repair sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles, other surface imperfections, and even acne scars, as well as aid in rebuilding skin-firming collagen.
On top of skin treatments, cosmetic facial injections can help you maintain a more youthful look on a temporary basis. Facial fillers like Juvéderm® and Restylane® will “fill in” wrinkles around your mouth, nose, and chin, and they can also rejuvenate facial hollows in the cheeks or under the eyes. Botox® and Dysport®, on the other hand, reduce expression lines around the eyes (crow’s feet), between the eyebrows, and on the forehead. As an added bonus, they also help to keep these wrinkles from worsening.
